Happy New Year! Welcome 2009…

January 14, 2009 · 2 Comments

Hope you all had a great holiday and are ready to begin the new year. Here at the GFJ we are busy planning the year ahead. Story times for preschool, toddlers and infants begin next week. February will bring back the BARK therapy dogs. Come and read to your favorite dog. They will be here on Saturday mornings starting in Feb.

A look ahead for the teen programs – April will bring a new Saturday program called “Movie Afternoon”. I plan on showing a DVD downstairs in the library meeting room and/or playing games. BINGO was  a big hit this past summer, so maybe we will have a BINGO afternoon! Of course there will be snacks and prizes.  Please let me know what you all would like….

And as always check out the new book display in the teen section – we are always updating our collection.

Thanks.

Happy Holidays!

December 12, 2008 · Leave a Comment

Hi – Hope you are having a nice holiday season. When you’re done shopping and want a good book to relax with, why not check out some new stuff we just got in:

Lucky by Rachel Vail (YA Fiction)

As Phoebe and her clique of privileged girlfriends get ready to graduate from eighth grade, a financial scandal threatens her family’s security–as well as Phoebe’s social status–but ultimately it teaches her the real meaning of friendship.

The London Eye Mystery by Siobhan Dowd (YA Fiction)

Ted and Kat watched their cousin Salim board the London Eye. But after half an hour it landed and everyone trooped off- except Salim. Where could he have gone? How on earth could he have disappeared into thin air? Ted and his older sister, Kat, become sleuthing partners, since the police are having no luck. Despite their prickly relationship, they overcome their differences to follow a trail of clues across London in a desperate bid to find their cousin. And ultimately it comes down to Ted, whose brain works in its own very unique way, to find the key to the mystery. This is an unput-downable spine-tingling thriller- a race against time.

The Twelve Dates of Christmas by Catherine Hapka (YA Fiction)

In this holiday installment of the Simon Pulses Romantic Comedies series , Lexi decides she doesn’t want to date Cameron anymore, so she sets him up with another girl and then is free to pursue her interests. But she has second thoughts and gets nervous when her best friend tells her the 12th date cements the relationship. Camreron is planning on going on his 12th date with Jaylene to the Christmas ball – can Lexi renew her relationship before there is no turning back?

Girl v. Boy by Yvonne Collins (YA Fiction)

Sixteen-year-old Lu Perez epitomizes her school’s lack of spirit, but as an anonymous columnist reporting on a fundraising competition that pits school against school and boy against girl, she and her co-columnist engage in a battle of the sexes with huge ramifications.
